LOG-ROLLING ACCTDENT. [Per Prkss Asso<~- vrroN.l GREYMOU i H, July 18. The young man named Smith, who •was so severely injured through a log rolling on him while he was getting timber for the contractors at Messrs Bowater cind Bryan's sawmill at Ikamatua last week, died on Tuesday afternoon in the Reef ton Hospital. It was found necessary to amputate a leg. The operation was successfully performed, but the patient died shortly afterwards. A girl, aged nineteen years, named O'Callaglian. who is reported to have lived with her parents at Fendalton, was admitted to tht Hospital about three o'clock yesterday morning, suffering from the effects of a dose of match-heads, self-administered, in a fit of despondency^ consequent on a lovers' quarrel. She is progressing favourably.
