[Fnoif Our CorbespoxdrntJ INVERCARGILL, June 5. The local Borough Council, by a regulation bearing on the conduct of the new municipal theatre, h?s succeeded in alienating the leading theatrical organisation or Australia, J. C. Williamson and 00. It war. decided some time ago to charge s' per cent extra when the theatre went to companies whose tariff was high, above "popular prices." After the last visit of a Williamson Company an attempt was made to collect) the extra amount, and was met by a refusal and a threat to cancel all bookings if the claim was insisted on. JL understand that cancellation has actually taken place. The report of a borough committee, to be presented tomorrow night, shows, however, that the municipality is practically " caving in." The committee explains that the regulation was originally adopted {because it was included in those pertaining to the' j municipal theatre at Palmerston North, ! from which the local regulations were ! compiled, but Palineireton has now abandoned this class, and the committee recommends that Invercargill should do likewise. t
