INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.

The Canterbury Industrial Associa- I tion met last evening; present — Messrs j A. W. Beaven (president), W. W. i Charters, F. E. Jones, F. Cooper, W. Congreve, J. Mitchell, P. Hercus, C. B. Cogaoi <amd R. Buchanan. The chairman reported regarding tho steps that had been taken in connee--tkwi. with. tSie^ movement for advertising the province of Canterbury. .He read a number of replies received to tftie oirculans sent out, support being promised to the movement generally. The chairman added that the proposed public meeting would probably be held on June 10. Correspondence was read in regard to the tariff. The WeOlington Industrial Association forwarded a list of proposed amendments in the tariff, and asked for the endorsement of the Canterbury Association. The chairman said that he did not think the Association should endorse the recomimendatdons, which did not touch some of the largest industries. It wjas decided tihat a conference of Associations should be held, in accordance with, the suggestion mad© by the Accklsuart} Association, before the GoI ff^gssasjHwi; we* approached in the mattier, & ctfpy of the resolution to be forwarded, to the Wellington Association. Om the motion of Mr Ghairters it was decid/edt tihat the tariff question should be refenred to the joint committee of the Association and the Trades and Labour Council, the report to be submitted to the Association prior to a conference of Industrial Aescciatious being called. The scheme prepared by the director of the Technical College for the allocation of the gold medal offered by the Aeso-ciatLo'ii as a memorial to the late Right Hem R. J. Seddon. was approved. T\ib director proposed that t!he medul should be awai'diedi annually to the best second-year student in tlhe trade cl asses. The meeting them closed.
