HOKITIKA, April 25. A fire at four o'clock this morning destroyed a villa residence- owned by Mr J. D. Lynch and occupied for the past two days. The' origin of the fire is a mystery. The insurances were — State Office £300, Manchester Office £90.

DUNEDIN, April 25. A four-roomed house at Kensington, occupied by Mr J. Hawkins, was burned down last night, owing ■fco a lighted oandle left alongside a boy's bed presumably being overturned. The furniture was insured for £75 in the New Zealand Office, and the house, which was owned by Mrs Roes, was insured for £130 in the National Office.
