[Peh Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 24. Great interest was taken in the polling to-day for the election of Mayor and Councillors for the city qf Wellington, and crowds gathered in the streets to view the posting of progress figures. Early in the evening it was clear that Mr Hislop would defeat Mr Wilford by a large majority. Victory for Mr Hislop was so assured that the final results were taken for granted, and the candidates addressed the electors. The final result was :— T. W. Hislop 5658, T. M. Wilford 2963.
