LONDON, April 24
Mr W. J. Hackett, of Western Australia, read a paper before the Society of Arts, dealing with the social andi economic conditions of Australia. He stated with regard to the Labour Party that a calm consideration would go far to discount the fears held in so many quarters. Mr Deakin, who presided, declared that the British public did not realise Australia's remarkable relative prosperity, enormous weath and inestimable opportunities. The Australians themselves had not yet learned to realise thoir possibilities. Mr Hughes quoted figures showing that whatever its opponents asserted that the Labour Party had done during the last, fifteen years', it had not prevented Australia from going ahead.
