FIRE BRIGADES' DEMONSTRATION.

THIRD DAY,

Fine weather with no wind favoured the third day's competitions of the Fire Brigades' Association this morning. The event that occupied tlie morning was the hose, hydrant and union competition for three men. To economise time a standard was set from the leading teams, and anything outside the standard (40sec) was not tested. As penalties were not calculated in such cases the actual time taken was not a true index of merit, and is not quoted. The following are results, the penalties being given in parentheses : — ■

HOSE, HYDRANT AND UNION ; for three men. Competitors to pick up three coils of wet hese, hydrant union and two branches, run twenty-five yards to plug, fix hydrant, run out fifty feet of hose, fix union and connect fifty feet of Lose to eacb de-

livery, striking discs with two jets of water. Thei event is not complete, but the teams approaching 40sec are as follow: — Hastings 37 l-ssec, "V. aihi 87 2-ssec, Stratford 38 4-ssec, Marton 39 4-ssec (lsec), Palmerston North 39 4-osec (lsec), Hokitika 40sec, Dunedin South 40 l-ssec (lsec), Westport 40 4-ssec. _In the afternoon the following additional times were recorded: — Timaru 33 2-ssec (lsec), Lyttelton 36sec, Hawera 37 2-ssec (lsec), Grey Lynn 35 3-ssec (_sec). This afternoon the rescue event and alarm and disabled hose, are being taken simultaneously wi_i the first event.
