GENEVIEVE WARD DELIVERS A TRAGIC RECITATION.
There is something delightfully casual ■ and more or less Gilbertian in the little poem Genevieve Ward gave at a concert some years ago as a joke. The famous tragedienne paved the way for its successful exploitation by preceding it with a very dramato recitaton, "The Convict Women. Then, when the audience was breathless with __ excitement and displayed an irresistible de* sire for more, Miss Ward returned tq the platform and in the most blood* curdling tones delivered the opening lines : — Susan ppisoned her mother's te»; Her mother died in agony. After relating this horrible catlfttrophe, which brought a shiver of nervous apprehension to the listeners, she made a little pause and closed the poem thus: — Her father iras extremely vexed, And said to Susan, "Well, what nexif"
