[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 21. The Department of 'Industries and Commerce Has received the following cable message from the High Commissioner, dated London, January 19 : — Frozen Meat. — The mutton market is quiet and prices are lower. Supplies from Canterbury, however, do not meet requirements, and quotations are nomi- ! nal. The average price for light-weight North Island. mutton, is 4£d, -and for heavy-weight 4£d per Ib. The lamb ! market is dull. A small shipment of this season's New Zealand lamb has arrived, and is realising full values, namely, from 5Jd to 6jd per Ib. Australian lamb is in. large supply, and is quoted at 4£d per Ib. The beef market is weak. New Zealand hindquarters are quoted at 3£d and forequarters at 3&d per lb. Butter. — The market is weak, but the demand still continues. Choice New Zealand is quoteS at 106s, Australian 100s, and Danish 114s per cwt. Cheese.— The market is firm. New Zealand makes are quoted x aisv 63s per cwt. Hemp. — There is a better demand, and the market is firm, with an upward tendency. " Good fair grade," on spot,. is quoted at £39 per ton, and for .January to' March shipment at £38 10s per ton; "'fair current Manila," on spot, is worth £43 per ton. Cocksfoot Seed. — There has been no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market since last week. Wool.— The market is active, and prices are firm. Wheat. — Quotations for New Zealand wheat are nominal. Oats. — The market is quiet, but firm. The price for New Zealand oats is unchanged. . Beans and Peas.— The market for New Zealand beans is very quiet, with nothing doing. New Zealand peas are steady at last quotation.
