The weekly return of the Bank of England shows the stock of gold coin and bullion in hand to' be £27,726,000, reserve £18,290,000, proportion of reserve to liabilities 25.45; notes in circulation £29,279,000; public deposits £6,169,000, other deposits £45,363,000 ; Government securities £15,956,000, other securities £37,117,000. Three months' bills are discounted at 4i to 4|. Consols are quoted at 86f . Colonial Securities.— The following axe the quotations of colonial securities: — /
Wheat.— After a, spell of activity, the wheat market was quieter, chiefly owing to larger deliveries of American spring wheat. The Continent, however, is still importing largely. The general tone is firm. South Australian November shipment is quoted at 31s per quarter; December-January, 30s 6d par quarter; January-February, new crop, 30s 3d per quarter. Parcels of October-November shipment are quoted at 295 -6 d. Freights for South Australian, are quoted at from 21s 3d to 225 ; for Victorian, in- foreign vessels, ,21s 6d ; in British vesels, 24s 6d to 255 ; for Sydney, January, 21s. Flour is dull; Australian, 21s to 21s 6d, ex store; Glasgow quotations air© unchanged.
Butter. — There is only a small supply of butter on the market, which is quiet ; Danish, 1225 ; choicest Australian, salted, 116s to 120s ; unsalted, 118s to 1225 ; Queensland, 112s to 116s ; secondaries slow and unchanged; Siberian, 104s to 108s.
Copper. — On spot, £97 10s per ton ; threeTmonths', £97 2s 6d per ton.
Tin.— On. spot, £195 2s 6d per ton; three months', i £l94 per ton., \ Silver. — 2s 7|d per ounce. Iron. — £2 16s per ton. Spelter.— £27 17s 6d per ton. ' Sugar. — German, 9s sd ; first marks, 11s 4d.
Wool.— At the Bradford wcol market, crosa-breds are weaker, but merinoes are strong; forties, 16fd, forty-sixes, 17£ d; • common sixties, 25Jd ; super 26* d. . : . Lead. — £19 17s 6d per ton. Imports, 16,848 tons, including 3600 tons Australian; exports, 4446 tons.
