Advices from Cartagena state that the divers have recovered the Sirio's locked treasure-box, which was supposed to contain much money and the passengers' jewels. It was found to be empty, and the . discovery has renewed the indignation against the officers and crew. (On August 6 the Italian steamer Sirio, from Genoa to Buenos Ayres, with eight hundred immigrants/ struck ! the Haxmigas Shoals, eighteen miles from Cartagena, and sank, stern first, within half an hour. There was a fearful panic on board, and many jumped into the sea. The survivors stated that, directly the vessel struck, the captain dropped into a boat, saying " Sauve gui peut." The officers- and crew, with knives and revolvers, fought their way through the passengers to the lifebelts and boats.)
