; CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday^ Attest 21. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) Drunkenness. — Two first offenders were fined 5& and costs each for drunkenness. — Owen Gettin was charged with being an habitual drunkard, having been thrice previously convicted within the past six months, and having [ been found drunk yesterday. He was sentenced to fourteen days' hard labour. Disordebi/st in an Hotel. — John O'Connor, for whom Mr Malley appeared, pleaded not guilty to a charge of having been quarrelsome in the Oxford Hotel, and having refuried to quit the premises when asked to do bo. The licensee said accused was not under the influence of liquor, but was very quarrelsome, and assaulted a man in the bar. He did not leave when told to do so, and witness sent for the police. The charge was dismissed. — John' Tinetti was charged with having been drunk and quarrelsome in the Oxford Hotel, and with having refused to leave when ordered to do so. The licensee gave evidence. Accused was fined 20s, or seven days' imprisonment. Vagrancy. — Peter T«»mby waa charged with being idle and disorderly, and habitually consorting with prostitutes. Mr Donnelly 'appeared for him, and athia request accused was remanded till Friday next, bail being allowed in one ! sarety ot £25. Maintenance. — Arthur Stokes (Mr Lawrie) was charged with failing to contribute to the maintenance of his two illegitimate ohildren. Mr Wright, who appeared for complainant, said that defendant had admitted his liability, and had forwarded his evidence. Mr Lowrie put in an affidavit as to defendant's wages. His Worship agreed with Mr> Wright that defendant had put everY possible difficulty in. the way of the Court. He was a young man whose circumstances might easily improve. Defendant was ordered to pay at the rate of 4s per week towards the support of each child, and to find security in the sum of £100.— Thomas R. Home and Andrew Home were each ordered to pay 5s a week, and Alexander Home 2s 6d per week, for the maintenance of an inmate of the Mental Hospital. — Mathew Morland was ordered to pay 10s a week to maintain a patient at the Mental Hospital.
