FIRE AT BLENHEIM.
GOOD BRIGADE WORK. [Per Press Association.] BLENHEIM, August 21. At four o'clock thi^ morning fire was discovered with a strong hold in Miss Millington's millinery shop, Alfred Street. The brigade staff did excellent work, •establishing a record. Steam was up from a cold boiler and' water playing in 6min 45sec. Three shops were completely gutted, and the stocks 'destroyed. The insurances are as follow: — Miss Millington's millinery shop and stock, £860 in the New Zealand Office, and £100 in tho Royal Office; building (owned by Mr H. Ball's estate), £500 in the Commercial Union Office; Mr Te Smale's furniture and fancy goods emporium, 6fcock £750, building (owned by Mr F. Paine) £500 —both in the State Office; Mr C. Bali's hairdresser's shop, stock nil, building (owned by Mr A. M'Kenzie), £100 in the Commercial Union. Mr T. Smale estimates his loss at nearly £2000. A brick wall and the absence of wind prevented the further spread of the fire towards the railway station.
