HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 20. . The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cabled market report from the High i Commissioner, dated London, August 18:— ' • Frozen Meat. — Trade in all classes or mutton, is very slow, and last cabled advicee are hardly maintained, except for light-weight carcases. Of lamb the consumption is large, but the market is a shade weaker. The average price I -of Canterbury brands is 4|d, other than Canterbury are selling at 4£d to 1 4fd. Tliere is a better demand for beef, and the. market is consequently firm. Supplies of American chilled beef on hand are small. New Zealand hindquarters are selling at 3fd per lb, and forequaTtera at 2sd. Butter. — The butter market has advanced', and choice New Zealand is in demand at 110s to 1126 peiv ewt; the quotation for Danish is 118s to 120s per cwt. ! Cheese. — The cheese market is firm, Canadian makes fetching 60s per cwt. Hemp. — The hemp market is quiet, with a email business doing at about last quotations, buyers not being keen on business. Cocksfoot Seed.-*-3/here is* no change on the nominal quotation, cabled last week. Wool.— The wool market is steady, and the quotations current for Bradford tops are as follow: — Thirty-sixes, low cross-breds, Is 5d per lb ; forties, Is s£d ; forty-fours, medium crossbreds, Is' 6sd | fifties, half-breds, Is lpd; fifty-sixes, quarter-brede, 2s; sixti.es, merinoes, 2s 3d. Kauri Gum. — The gum market i§ quiet but firm at last quotations. No auctions have been held during the month. r
