WAREHOUSE THEFTS.
SUSPENSION OF EMPLOYEES. [Fkom Ocb Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, July 5. The police scandal last year is revived by the fact that one of our largest soft goods firms (Sargood, Son and Ewen) yesterday suspended or discharged 18 of its employees. Suspicion was first aroused through some remark made about receiving cigarettes for nothing from youthful employees of the firm, j This led to investigations, and a confession on the part of some of those concern od, with the result that systematic and organised theft was found to be rife in a number of the departments. The goods taken include men's wearing apparel, boots, fanc^gocds, etc. It is j stated on good authority that a sjjort time ago another wholesale firm found it necessary 'to suspend six employees for similar practices, and some other instances are mentioned were like action had been found necessary in wholesale and retail establishments. Investigations are now being made in another large city establishment.
