THE GRAND LODGE <8F NEW ZEALAND. The annual communication of the Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand was opened at the- Choral Hall this afternoon. Several hundred representatives of Lodges in all parts of the colony, ranging from Mangonui in the north to Invercargill in the couth, were present, and W.M. Bro A. H. Burton, ot Dunedin, the retiring Grand Master, presided. The report of the Board of Management of the Widows and Orphans' and Aged Masons' Fund showed that the capital 1 value of the < fund was £5692. Out of the interest earned, annuities were being paid to seven aged Masons and one widow, to the amount of £131 per annum.
The Board of Benevolence reported that grants had been mad© during the year to the extent of £152. This, it will be. understood, is supplementary to the votes made by the . separate Lodges in answer to circular appeals, which constitute by far the largest factor in Masonic benevolence.
The annual statement of accounts and balance-sheet for the year ending March 31, ISO 6. stated the cash balances of the several funds as follow: — General £2068, fund of benevolence £2325, widows and orphans' and aged Masons' ' ud £5692, representation fund £^±, circular appeals £296, Thomson memorial £78; total £10,753.
The funds showed an increase of £1994 duriag the- past year, and £2939 in the two years' period for which the institution has beon. managed from Dunedin.
