■ AUCKLAND v. WELLINGTON. [Per Pkess Association.] WELLINGTON, January 15. A slight drizzling rain from the south set in about nine o'clock this morning, but cleared off before the game was resumed, and the weather promises to be fine for the rest of the day. The rain that did fall placed the Aucklanders at a disadvantage both as regards bowlers and fieldsmen, as they had to handle a greasy ball, and the wicket was /endered easy. Hickson and Redgrave, the" not-out men of Saturday, .<began scoring rapidly, and frequent changes were made in the bowling without effect. Redgrave was particularly severe, treating all the bowlers alike. At noon the pair were still together, with the score at four- wickets for 286. Hickson was saved from being run out through the bad fielding or Stemson, and Redgrave might- have been caught by an active fieldsman. At 299 Redgrave- skied Oliff to cover and was caught, after playing a vigorous innings for 77. Fourteen xuns later Olliff got a shooter past Hickson, and his long innings came to an end. 313_6— 135. Laws and Brice were then associated, and the latter at once became aggressive, sending the ball to the boundary or over the fence. Olliff changed ends, and off his first ball Brioe was caught by Lusk at cover, only to find that "No ball " had been called. Briee signalised his escape by bringing his total up to 50, when he fell a victim to a fine running catch by Brooke-Smith. Just at this time Wellington's score was 380 for seven wickets, and the innings was declared closed, leaving Auckland 392 to get to win. Scores : — AUCKLAND. First Innings.
