THE PAPAL ENCYCLICAL
| ITS EFFECT IN AUSTRALIA. United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph — Copyright. I (Received July 21, 10.2 a.m.) MELBOURNE, July 21. Archbishop Carr considers that tho effect of the Papal encyclical letter, co far as Australia is concerned, will naturally be slight in view of the fact that the same conditions do not obtain hero in regard to Socialism and the Socialistic agitation as prevail in Europe. Considering Cardinal Moran's recent remarks on Socialism, in the light of the encyclical letter he though* that the two matters were entirely separate. The Pope refers to those who may be designated extreme Socialists, thos9 who have in view not merely the nationalisation of the means of production and exchange, but who go still further, and deny the right of private property, and recommend immoral means of carrying out their projects.
