During a sharp thunderstorm last night a boy named Douglas Morrison, son of Mr Morrison, of Glen Duan, Wakapuaka, waa standing at a ditch opposite his parents' residence, when he was struck by lightning, and thrown into the ditch in a dazed condition. When recovered it was found that he had been temporarily blinded. It Was then found that his eyebrows were singed off, though no further ill-results are feared. Heavy rain fell all night, and it is still raining at intervals. GREYMOUTH, July 7. George Bennett, engaged in gold mining at Stillwater _ Creek, was killed yesterday by a fall of earth. Bennett was forty-nine years of age, and leaves a wife and four children. Dr Gibson and his groom were driving near the corner of Ranfurly Street and Springfield Road, when the trap was overturned, it is reported, by collision with a d ra y- The occupants were thrown out, the groom sustaining slight concussion of the brain. He was removed to the Hospital. Doctor Gibson escaped practically unhurt.; ,'■'<' A .cuddle-aged man named R.
