DIDN'T RUN STRAIGHT.
Shortly after a very important rao* it was whispered thaif one of the cyo lists engaged therein had not shown his true form. Rumour became some*thing more when the competitor in question allowed his tongue to run away with him, and admitted, in th«l presence of a member of the local committee, that he " didn't run straight/ As the direct result of this damaging admission he was called before th« committee to explain his running. "We hear," remarked the onairman. "that you were a non-trier in the mile race at X last week. Ja that true?" ■ "Certainly not," came the prompt!
" Indeed 1 But It so happens that Mr Blank, a gentleman sitting on this committee, heard you confess that you had not run straight. Is that true? "Perfectly," responded the suspect. "I didn't run straight. The follow who tries to do a straight mile on ai circular track is simply qualifying for the lunatic asylum or the hospital 1 ' «Oh! cr — vm — of course,'' murmured the chairman. "I think you had better retire. If we've anything more to say we'll send for you." But they never did..
