PATENTS.
♦ There is a tendency among mechanics and others who are inventors to drew their own specifications for pateute. • By so doing they save part v of the initial expense. But we would remind them that euch a course very often turns out to be the mast costly, as has been proved in recent patent litigation. .. It may be possible to get the patent, as tha Registrar of Patents will grant it provided fie can see any novel feature described in the specification. But he takes no responsibility, and issues the patent entirely at applicant's risk. To draw a patent specification requires a special training and an unbiassed mind, which latter, it is safe to say, is not possessed by one vitally interested or owning the invention. What might have been a good patent if properly protected is often upset through some flaw which might easily have been avoided. Do not hesitate to employ a trained patent agent "to do your work for you; the best firm we can recommend in Chrif-tchuroh is that of Henry Hughes, whoso office; files more than 50 per cent of the entire business of Canterbury Province. 6279
