Drunkenness.— John Murphy, who had been twice convicted of drunkenness within the preceding sis months, pleaded guilty to a further charge of inebriety. He was fined 20s. — A first offender, -a man, was fined ss, and another, who did not appear, was fined 10s. A Vagrant.— lsabella Leckie was charged with being deemed a rogue and a vagabond. It w^as mentioned that she had been convicted as an idle and* disorderly person in 1883. Sub-In-spector Dwyer said that the accused had been repeatedly before the Court, and had been given every chance of reforming. Accused was sentenced tc> six months' imprisonment. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) A Claim for Damages.— John, M'Kay, represented by Mr Kippenberger, claimed £50 damages from the New i Zealand Electrical Construction Company. The statement of claim mentioned that on or before April 8 the defendant company was constructing the tramway line at a point on the Papanui Road near the place where it was. joined by the North Road. On the night of April 8 the . company had left the rails exposed high above the ground without an effective light to show that suoh w^B the case, The plaintiff and u-iis wife had been driving along the Papanui Road from Christ church towards Belfast. When reaching the .point in question, plaintiff had sought ! to turn from the western side of the i road into the North Road, and, in so doing, the . horse and trap had been capsized, and the plaintiff and his family had been thrown on the ground land greatly injured, and the trap, horse and harness had also been damaged. On the application of Mr Harper, who appeared for the defendant ! company, an adjournment for a week was granted, and, with the consent of IMr Kippenberger, the Christchurch Tramway Board was joined in the action with the Electrical' Construction Company. j Default Cases.— Judg7nent, by de- i fault, was given for the plaintiffs in the following cases : — Christchurch City Council v. Stewart, £10 12s 6d; William Charles Green v. Thomas Alexander, 18s Id ; Vincent and Company v. Joseph GouWing, £8; Thomas Boyd and Son (Mr Wright) v. D. J.- Scott, sen., and D. J. Scott, jun., £17 11s Id; D. Benjamin and Co. v. A. E. Barsdell, £23 4s 3d.
