THE SUPPOSED WRECKAGE.

«. • AN EXPLANATION. United Prees Association— By Electric Telegraph— Copyright. (Received May 15, 9.45 a.m.) MELBOURNE, May 15. The Collector of Customs believes that the wreckage found in Venus Bay was thrown Overboard from the Loongana a fortnight ago. It is similar to a portion of the cargo damaged by the recent fire on the Warrhno'o. It was condemned by the Board of Health, but permission was given to tranship it to the Loongana, in order that it might be got rid of. It is concluded that it was thrown overboard in Bass Strait. (It was reported on Saturday that a quantity of wreckage, consisting of tea, tinned fish and cases marked tea, Myaganaza, shipped by. the Lipton Company to C. Hardy, Rakaia, was washed ashore at Venus Bay, twenty miles south of Outtrim. It was surmised that the articles were washed or thrown over from a passing vessel).
