The match Australia v. Surrey was continued to-day in delightful weather.

The wicket was hard, and there was a" good attendance. Lees and Knox were bowling. Runs came at a fair pace, two fours each being scored by Armstrong and Darling in the first twentyfive minutes. Darling added a dozen to his overnight score, and was caught by Knox, an easy chance at mid-off off Hayes. The latter, who had relieved Knox, got a wicket in his first over. Five for 129 (Armstrong 34). Hopkins had little chance to show his mettle, as he was very unluckily run out. A ball, driven back by Armstrong, went off Lees' shin on to the wicket. Six for 149. Laver 'was next given out leg before to Hayes when he had made a single. Seven for 165 (Armstrong 48). M'Leod joined Armstrong, and the partnership resulted in a better stand, but M'Leod was rather lucky in scoring a five and a four through the slips. With an on-drive for five, Armstrong sent the score up to 200, runs now coming freeiy and 105 was scored in the first hour and a half. When his score had reached 83, Armstrong played Knox on. His fine innings lasted 130. minutes, and included one five and ten fours. Eight for 228 (M'Leod 83). ; At the luncheon adjournment the score stood at eight wickets for 239 (M'Lecd 42, Kelly 1). M'Leod was missed at 81 by Holland in the slips. On resuming, Kelly was bowled' by Hayes in the first over. 'Nine for 241. M^Leod reached 50 when he had been eighty minutes at the wickets, and was now playing capital cricket. Cotter, the last man, started vigorously, making fourteen in one over off Hayes, then two fours off Lees, his score of 26 being made in seven hits, bringing the total up to &05. Holland brought the end by taking an easy catch in the slips from M'Leod off Lees, the innings dosing for 292. Cotter's unfinished innings of 30 comprised six fours and three twos. , June, last wicket added 51 in twenty

minutes,

Hay ward and Hobbs opened Surrey's second innings. With seven up, of which he contributed one, Hobbs put an easy one from Cotter into Armstrong's hands in the slips. One for

Cotter and Layer bowled • from the start. Hayes joined Hay ward, and runs came very fast. Hayes, playing finely, made three fours in quick succession. Seven byes were also added.
