The general tendency among historians of the present day to argue* that ■€he devil, far from being as black as he is painted, is conspicuously whiter than other people, has apparently spread to the poets, for it is announced by Mr Stephen Phillips that he will occupy himself in his next work with a vindication of the character of Nero.— i "Academy and Literature."
