GRAFTING A FINGER.

SUCCESS OF A REMARKABL OPERATION.

The case of finger-grafting in New York reported in the "Daily Mail' 1 of February 17, has been carried to a successful conclusion. An actress, having lost a finger in an accident, offered by advertisement £100 for a new finger to be grafted on to her hand, and a poor widow agreed to supply her want.

The two women — whose names are not disclosed — had their hands bandaged tightly together for twenty-two days after the operation, which was carried out by Dr Nelden, a New York surgeon, to enable the stump and the perfect finger to knit.

A, few days ago it was discovered that circulation was established, and yesterday the two hands were cut apart. The actress said that she experienced a distinct sensation, in the new joint when the surgeon touched the finger. The flesh will now be stitched to the stump and the hand kept in splints for two weeks, when the operation will be complete.

Dr Nelden says that the new finger will be nearly an inch shorter than was anticipated, because it was necessary to cut away a part of the bone.

Another woman, said to be an actress, and having a malformed finger, has authorised Dr Nelden to offer £100 for a new one. The doctor says he can get all the fingers he wants at that price.
