Representations have been made to the Federal Government with regard to the German restrictions in the Marshal! Islands. On behalf of the Germans, it is explained that there are two scales of licence fees, one for the vessels 1 domiciled within the group, the other for foreign trading vessels, and no discrimination is shown against British. The 'fee against all outside traders, including German, was doubled some time ago. The reason for the action was that formerly there were three trading firms in the group, and their keen competition cau«d a lot of trouble in the administration of the colony, ) apart from the financial losses of the firms, fwhich retarded the progress of the islands. Eventually the three companies were absorbed by the Jaluit Company.
