Advices from Tokio state t-hat Japanese sappers tunnelled a long distance, nearly to the heart of the fortress at Port Arthur. During the storming of Erlungshan the Japanese climbed; an almost vertical hill, using holes caused by the bombardment as footholdsj and rushed th/e position after half an hour's fierce resistance.
