» [From Oue, Correspondent] DUNEDIN, July 14. Mr Holmes, of the Public Works Department, has complet-edyhis inspection of the tramway routes and returned to headquarters to-day. It is understood that a satisfactory /solution of the existing difficulty will be reached. The tramway engineer was "able to demonstrate that the cars in uee do not contravene the width stipulted by the Tramways Act, as only one footboard can be m use while the car is running. The Waipori Electric Pow-er Bill goes before Parliament with a strong backing from Otago. The resolutions from the Comity Councils, Borough Councils and Road Boards, approving, or endorsing, number eighteen : the only declared opposi- . tibn is from the Dunedin City Council, and on the other hand the petition in favour of the scheme is signed br Dunedin merchants, business houses and users of light . and power, etc., representing vested interests to the value of two million sterling.
