FLOODS IN THE NORTH ISLAND. [Peb Press Association PALMERSTON NORTH, April 7. A heavy easterly gale which blew all day yesterday developed duiing the night into a hurricane, accompanied by driving showers of rain. Considerable damage- is reported. Chimneys, sheds, fences and haystacks have bean blown" down in all directions, trees uprooted and windows oi -private and business premises blown, in. It is still blowing 1 a fresh breeze from' the same quarter. NAPIER, April 7. Very heavy rain, which, fell yesterday end last night inland, caused a heavy flood in the Tutaekuri River. The bank at Meanee gave way, and a large area of country is submerged by flood waters. HAWERA, April 7. | Heavy rain, which fell last night, caused a slip at the Manawatu Cutting, north of Manutahi, which blocked the railway line. This morning's train' from Hawera could not get through, and the early morning train from Wanganui was cancelled. Nearly two inches of rain has fallen in Hawera during the last twenty-four hours. I BLENHEIM, April 7. Bitterly cold southerly weaffclier is 'being ! experienced. There- has been a heavy \ snowfall on the ranges.
