KILLED WHILE AT PLAY
GRANDMOTHER PLUCKILY ASSAILS A MAD HEIFER. Three children were attacked while at play at Warwick, on November 25, by a polled heifer. One was killed, a second seriously injured,, and the third child 'had a> miraculous escape. The heifer was being driven to ai stock sale when it became infuriated and dashed madly through the streets, finally careering up an entry which ended in a blank wall and wihere three children were playing — two boys of seven and six respectively, and a little sister of the six-year-old boy. As it was impossible to escape, the children were at the mercy of the beast. The six-year-old boy was attacked with such fury that a. hole, was knotted in th© wall. His dead body afterwards presented a frightful spectacle. The other boy wa* also badly hurt, but there is hope of his recovery. The girl wag pluckily rescued' by her grandmother, who, hearing a noise, ran up the alley and caught hold of the animal's tail. This caused it to step back, and the woman then dragged the child from beI neath its legs. The passage was so narrow ! that the heifer could not turn- round. It wae subsequently shot.
