SETTING BACK THE CLOCK.
' RE-OPENING THE WOUNDS OF THE WAR. The violent incendiary language used by the members of the Dutch Reformed Church at the Synod in October, on the subject of the martial-law grievance, has raised the deepest resentment among the Loyalists in. Cape Town. Every outrageous libel on the British troops current during the war was repeated. Th© most odious featiire, however, <A all the speeches was that the speakers professed to be following the example of Christ. They quoted distorted texts with the object oi proving themselves right in their attitude. Afrikander mothers were exhorted) to hand down from generation to generation the story of the " infamous " doings of. the British troops. One prominent minister, declared that the almighty arm of the God oi Vengeance would be revealed in His own good time. Others talked of twenty thousand women and children having been murdered in the concentration camps. Moderate Afrikander feeling has bsen greatly shocked at thia wanton Te-Opc-ning of the wounds of the. war The general opinion is that the effect of the discussion at the Synod will be to put bnck the clock of reconciliation indefinitely. ..The question ia freely asked, Can such treasonable utterances tie allowed to pass unnoticed?
