Beresford, J.P.y Dbunkbnness^*-Two first offenders were each fined 5s antf' cost*, in default twentyfour hours' imprisonment. — Alexander Martm, alias M'Clelland, pleaded guilty to a cßarge of drunkenness. He stated that he only came out of gad yesterday, and got a drop too much. He wanted a chance to get away into the country, for he had been in gaol twenty-one times in the course of six years, and he had done no one any harm but himself. Mr Snuull offered^ to take charge of the accused* and aefld ninl away to work, and on this understanding he^rae convicted and discharged. Alleged Theft. — George Wilkens, a smali boy, was charge^ with basing on October 24 stolen a caa&Boxj valued at 10s, containing £3 in money and; stamps valued at £1, the property of .tb» AJliance Assurance Company. On- tne 'application of the police the ia*£L was remanded' till Saturday, bail being allowed in two sureties of £10 each.
