GERMAN-AMERICAN SAILORS.

There were numerous desertions of American sailors from the United States Squadron while it was at Kiel, in July last. The numbers were kept secret, -but in German naval circles it appeared to be known thatf 105 men had deserted. « T!he commander of the American squadron offered a reward of £4 for each deserter brought back, btfE not one deserter was captured. On board the American warship there are, it is known, some four nundmll sailors of Germa.n nationality who were recruited in the Kiel district, and it is exclusively ttitfbng these men that .the deserters .were to be found. A year and a> half ago when an, American training ship was at Kiel thirty of the crew olf German, nationality deserted in a similar way.
