AN UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT. United Prus Association— By Elaotne Telegraph— Copyrigb.l (Received September 3, 8.5 a.m.) LONDON, September 2. Mr M. A. Holbein made another unsuccessful attempt to swim from Dover to Calais. He was immersed for seventeen hours and twenty minutes t and got within four miles -of thd French coast, -when an adverse current carried hint back four miles, 4 endering the struggle hopeless. The water -was smooth and warm. (Holbein has made three previous efforts to swim the Channel. On his third attempt — made this time last year — he was in the water for twenty-two hours twenty-one minutes, and was taken out when only at mile from his destination.)
