« OHRISTCHURCH. Wednesday, August 19. (Before Mr W. W. Collins, J.P., and Mr J. B. Sim^.J.P.) DnuNKENSKSs. — James Dwan, once previously convicted, was fined 5s and costs for drunkenness, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. — Gabriel Hadling, a> prohibited person, with one previous conviction during the past six months, was fined 10s and costs, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. A charge against the same accused of having entered licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order, was adjourned until Tuesday, to enafale the case to be taken before the Stipendiary Magistrate. — A iirsfc offender, against whom a, prohibition order was also in force, pleaded guilty, and was fined 5s and costs, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Both accused pleaded that they 'were nob aware that the order extended beyond the bounds of Kaiapoi, in, which district it had been issued. Erring Ctclists. — Millicent Cooks, who did not appear, was charged with having ridden her bicycle on the footpath in Sprey■don. Sub-Inspector Dwyer said that this was the third time the defendant had been before the Comb on this charge. She was fined 10s and costs. — Walter Pengelly, a 'messenger boy, was convicted and discharged for Tiding his bicycle on the footpath.—Herbert Taylor pleaded hob guilty, to a. charge of having ridden his bicycle on the Iticcarton Road, and directly contradicted the evidence of Constable Pcrninski and his ! witness. Ha stated that when his name was taken the constable had said that it Avould nob be his fault if f he (defendant) got off.' He-called as a witness his companion, who had also been summoned for a similar offence, arid his evidence corroborated the statement in defence. The Bench said there was a doubt, and the case would be dismissed. — The following defendants were mulcted for similar offences :-=— Henry Davies ss, John Gabboth ss, Thomas M'Cleary ss, John Kerr 5s and John, Bradshaw and Robert Skinner, whf> did not appear, 10s each. — Walter Armstrong was fined ss> without costs, for riding his bicycle after dark without a light.
