(Received June 9, 8.53 a.m.) l CAPE TOWN, June 8 Frank God'iard was sentenced to twdva years' imprisonment with hard labour aft Johannesburg for waylaying and robbing two Customs officer^, aa cabled on March 7. The accomplice of Gocfdard "was sen- * tenced to ten years for throwing pepper in the eyes of the officers. (The cable on March 7 referred to- -was as follows: — At Johannesburg, yesterday, two men, using cayenne pepper,' blinded a couple of Customs officials wyio were conveying a bag containing £5000 to the bank. They wrested the" bag from the officer carrying it> hit him with it t und then handed it to a horseman. The latter, starting a headlong flight, knocked dawn Mr Brandon, manager of a ]ocal firm. The horse bolted and threw its rider, who rushed with the bag into a l.ousft. When; arrested he gave hi 9 name as Frank Goddard. He -was charged with robbery, and remanded till March. 17. Mr Brandon succumbed to his injuries.)
