LITERARY FRIENDSHIPS
Though living so far away from the great world of men and women of letters, Ethel Turner has made many over-sea literary friendships, through correspondence, and her library includes quite a big row of " authors' copies," which have been sent to her. Mr Coulson Kernahan, for instance, has written her several delightful letters ; while among others who have first made acquaintance through reading her books, and have then sought to improve the acquaintance through the medium of letter-writing, may be mentioned George Meredith and Frances Hodgson Burnett. " I often wish I could go Home," she remarked, when referring to these letters, "but I suppose that will come before very much longer. "Yes, I have written some verses occasionally, bufc nofc very many" (all too few, ifc might be interjected), "and I am not likely to develop poetry."
