[Fbom Ottr Corbbsp9ndbnt.] WELLINGTON, May 7. Petty burglaries are beginning to be troublesome in tihe city. They are now a more .important event than the " big gooseberry " of the silly season. What a trustful people we are may be judged! from, the fact tlbat peoiple are now being warned frantically to lock their doors. The following resolution- was passed, at the last -meetimigi of the Wellington Wharf Labourers' Union :—" That, whereas tfhe Conciliation 'and Arbitration Act places upon tihe unions of workers of eadh trade and oalling the responsibility of acting as the legal representative of all tihe workers engaged) in such tradle or calling, it is t/herefore necessary that the Act Should be so amaended as to provide that special protection shall be given to thos-b workers who become members of such industrial unions." The Shokespeaire Society, which was introduced' on Tuesday by tlhougihtful speeches from the Chief Justice, tbe Registrar of the University, Dr Findlay, and others, is so well started tha* no more members can bo taken. ________^__ — ____________
