+- — ■— In tha Linwood Congregational Hall on Tuesday^a complimentary social was given to Mr and Mrs F. Sladen, who intend leaving on a- trip to England. The Rev I. Sarginson said that in the six years Mr Sladen had- been in tho colony he had impressed all who knew him with bis sterling character. The same remarks could be applied to Mrs Sladen. The meeting also bade farewell to the Rev I. Sarginsohi, who will leave shortly for Brisbane, where he will represent the Ifew Zealand Congregational Union at the jubilee celebrations of ther denomination in Queensland. 'The 'Xorltshire Society held the opening social of its winter session' on Tuesday : eveniihg. Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, vice-presi-dent, octjjipied the chair, supported by Cap- ' tain Colbeck and Lieutenant Evans, of /the Morning, and the officers of the Society. 1 A large number of members were present. Songs were given by Misses Stewart and Thompson, and Messrs C. Reid, Rodder, Ampman, M'Lean and Sullivan, recitations by Miss F. Wilson, Messrs C. H. Hobbs and Stead, and a sailor's hornpipe by Boatswain Cheater and Mr J. Butterfield. The officers and crew- of the Morning, most of whom are Yorkshiremen, were present, and Lieutenant Evans presented a framed 'pliotograpb v of the officers and crew to the ''Socieity. f Dancing succeeded supper. Miss was pianist.
