WEALTHY CLERGYMEN.
Dr Parker died rich, after all — though not rich enough, according to Mr Carnegie's standard to die disgraced. There have bsen much larger fortunes than £23,000 left behind of late years by men who spend their lives in preaching the Gospel. The days hare gone by when the church made millionaires, though one bishop within living memory is said to have made nearly a million of money out of his bishopric. But fortunes running into six figures have been accumulated by a surprising number of ministers and clergymen during the last few years, and many comfortable men of the world would be glad to be certain of such a fur tune as has afc least twenty times within the last two or three years been left by wearers of "the cloth." The poor people of Glasgow would be surprised, no doubt, by the revelation that the late Roman Catholic Archbishop, Dr Eyre, left all but £150,000 gross— almost exactly the same sum as was left a year or two ago by a clergyman at Brighton.
