General Sir lan Hamilton has been appointed Quartermaster-General of the Army. (Sir lan Hamilton was one- of the few British leaders who made his reputation in tho South African War. It was largely owing to his efforts that the British successfully resisted the Boer attack-' on Ladysmith. On the relief of Ladysmith Tie was appointed to command a .division of Lord Roberts's Army, and he participated in the march to Pretoria. When Lord Roberts returned to England General Hamilton accompanied him as Military Secretary to the Commander-in-Chief. Some months before the conclusion of hostilities he returned to South Africa as chief of Lord Kitchener's stuff, anrt he was actively employed in the field for some little time before tlie final surrender.)
