MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

At the monthly meeting of tho Canterbury Band of Hope Union, 'held in the Council rooms last nirht, Mr George Franklin presided. The following resolution was carried (all present standing) : — "That this Council of tho Band of Hope Union do now adjourn out of respect to the president of the Union (Mr J. T. Smith) and the VicePresident of the Union (Mr Thomas Cutler), on the deaths of their wives, who have passed away since- the last meeting of the Council." The 'Secretary was instructed to send letters of condolence to Messrs' Cutler and Smith. — f ■
