LAND BOARD.

*> Thts Canterbury Land Board met on Thursday ; present — Messrs Thomas Humphries (Coimnissionei'), A. C Pringle niul Joseph Seßly. Harry Hurst was granted a lease in perpetuity of ninety-one acres in' the Mead Settlement. Daniel Collins applied for the feame section. F. W. Page was granted an exchange from perpetual lease to lease in perpetuity of twenty acres in the Ashbmton Survey District. Applications for transfer of lease and licenses were granted — Ja-mes O'Connor to Bryan O'Connor of lots 8, 9 and 10, Chertsey Village Settlement; and Arthur G. Williams to Samuel Wilson, lot 8, reserve 1261, Ashburton. Several other transfers of lease were granted. The. Crown Land Rangers' reports were dealt with and accepted as satisfactory. It was decided to take no further action in regard to the origin and starting point of recent fires in the Oxford Bush, owing to the insufficiency of evidence obtainable. For the. protection of bush at Mount Herbert it was resolved to grant tenancies of the open portions of the reserve, as recommended by the ranger, to Frank Gardner of the northern portion at £5 per annum, to William Field of part of the western at £3 10s, «nd to Lawrence Wilson fif the balance rent free, provided lie preserved some bush on his own freehold. Mrs M. A. Crew was granted an advance of £35 on her holding in Tarawahi Hamlet, repaj'able in eight years. It was resolved to offer, in four blocks, lands in Dromore Township for lease for terms of seven years, at upset rentals of 3s per acre per annum, subject to certain conditions as to fencing, clearing and laying down in grass. Mr W. R Lyttelttm was granted a temporary tenancy of an estimated area of 150 acres in R-akaia riverbed, to prevent trespass of stock. Mr J. T. Cooch, for a syndicate, was allowed to withdraw an application for a coal-mining lease at Winterslow, but £40 was deducted from the deposit to be refunded, to cover costs of survey, etc. Renewals of bush-splitting licenses for six months were granted to F. C. Knowles and Alfred Jones, Oxford. Seme other detail business was transacted', and the Board rose.
