♦ A telegram from Aucklamd announces the death of Captain John Mackay, late of the barque Nqrtbern Chief. Mr J. Knubley left for Timairu, and Mr J.Bonnington for Ashburton by this morning's express train. Mr M. 0. Brown arrived in town this morning. Mr Donald Munro, local inspector for the Health Department, was .married yester-. day, to M':ss Maud Merchant, late, of Dunedin. Tbe ceremony was performed' at St Paul's Church by the Rev R. Steele.: Mr 'Andrews, who has- held the position of. booking clerk at the Rangiora Railway Station for over a year, has received notice that he will be transferred on Friday, to take up the duties of relieving stationmaster. During Mr Andrews's service at the station, his unfailing courtesy and obliging disposition have won him general esteem, and his removal will be regretted, although pleasure is felt at his promotion. Dr Evans arrived from Wellington by the s.s. Rotomahana this morning.
