WHEEL NOTES.
(By ROVER.) Mr A. R. Barker has heiem appointed by the Raargiora Athletic Association to represent that body on tihe North Canterbury Centre of the League. The Wairarapa Caledonian Society has decided to stick to the League, and its cycling events on New Year's Day are to be held under the League's rukf. If the Christchurch Cycling Club is satisfied with the support accorded 1 it by the amateurs at its meeting on Dec. 16, its Boxing Day programme will cater liberally for the trophy section. i I notice that League dnterests do not appear to be making much headway in the Wellington district as yet. At the Porirua Athletic Cl-üb's sports on Boxing Day, it is announced " all cycle events are open to non -League riders." Training operations are in full swing at Lancaster Park just now, and present indications bear out the opinion I formed a month ago — namely, that there are likely to be plenty of riders on the track during the coming season. Not only that, but the large number of new riders who are making their debut includes some very promising material. Mr J. Ranfield, late foremam of the An-glo-New Zealand Cycle Company, ha» cornmen oeld business for himself in tth-e premises hitherto occupied by Messrs Oimmingtttta and Co., Oxford Terraoe, between. GDomcester and Armagh Stireeta. He ds nMunuflacturing a machine from B.S.A. pao.'ts, to be* known as the "Banfield." Martin, who has been definitely engaged by the Christchurch Cycling Club to race at its Boxing Day meeting, is expected to leave Melbourne for this colony on Dec. 15. The " Plugger " will always be a draw in this colony, for his ridng is of that dashing, determined kind that sports followers in Maoriland love to see. I for one hope his coming tour in New Zealand will be a successful one. The Christchurch Cycling Club is already in communication with the Australian Leagues regarding the prospects of getting Major Taylor to extend his projected Australian visit to this colony. I understand the C.C.C. is prepared to bid very high to secure the presence of the dusky whirlwind. Whether successful or not, the club is deserving of the thanks of all followers of sport for the enterprise it is displaying , in the matter.
