WELLINGTON NOTES.
[From Otto Correspondent.] * WELLINGTON, Nov. 28.
Even the opponents of the Premier admit tfliat he scored a personal triumph over the result <of the .Rangitikei election, which' was a compensating set-off for the defeat of the Government senior whip, whose election for Maoawatu was regarded as a certainty. , The Foxton electors in days gone by stood strongly to Mr Stevens, but this year they wont "back on. him, and gave their patronage to Mr Vile. Political gossip is already at work concerning the Ministerial candidates who are likely to receive consolation for their defeat at the polls by elevation to the Upper House. It is prophesied that Mr Stevens will be one of the number, his claims being the strongest. It is also predicted that Sir Maurice O'Rorke and Mr W. Jennings will bo among the batch, the former also getting the Speakership left vacant by the retirement of Sir H. Miller. I give the statements for what they are worth.
[Per Press Association.]
WELLINGTON, Nov. 28.
