[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Oct. 28. • Mr Beohan will retire from the City, and Mr Iyer irom the Waikato contest. HAMILTON, Oct. 28. Mr H. J. Greensla.de, Government candidate for Waikato, addressed a large meeting afc Ohaupo last evening. He expressed belief in the present land laws and tlw option of tenure, and defended the borroAving of the Government. He maintained tliat indirect remissions more than counterbalanced the increase of directs duties. A vote of thanks amd confidence was passed. HAWERA, Oct. 28. Mr M'Guire addressed the Hawera. electors last evening. He strongly criticised the administration of the Government and received a vote of thanks. He stated that he would prefer the question of confidence to be decided at the ballot box. TIMARU, Oct. 28. Mr John Campbell, a candidate for thfe WaitaW seat, in opposition to Major Steward, opened his campaign at Albury last night, and had a good reception. He declared himself a Liberal, but took exception to the present method of administration'. Borrowing should be discontinued, except on a small scale within the colony, and the expenditure should not be allowed! t-o exceed t2ie revenue. He favoured freehold land tenure, Bible in schools, the abolition of the toalisato-r and freo secondary education. Having been a farmer all his life, he claimed to know the farmers' wants, and he was standing in the interests of the farmers. He received a vote of thanks. [From Our Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, Oct. 28. Peeling over the Caversham election is likely to°be further embittered by Mr Earnshaw securing both main halls for the night before the campaign. As sooiu as Mr Sid'ey, the sitting member, Avas informed by the Acting-Premier that the election had been fixed for Nov. 25, he booked the South Dunedin Hall for Nov. 24. Last night he wrote to the Local Borough Council" complaining that he had been informed that Mr EarnshaAV. having previously secured the hall for the night before the election, hi9 contract would not be fulfilled. The Council decided that it was 'powerless to interfere.
