The next hole -was halved, after very in-and-out play. The Lake Ho 1 !© -was .-vronj by Gillies through Golla'n giving up after «gainr rinding the fence. Gollan, 2 up. At Land's End both had rather narrow -escapes of going out of >bounds> with their third shot, Gillies especially. Gollan his -opponent" witih- his fihlh >andi 'the hole -was halved in 6. Gollan riook O'Rorkc's Drift with 3 to his . opponent's 4. Both drove long shots for Spi^nkop. Gillies -was on the edge of the green with -his second and 1 holed out with his next, with a long putt. :Gollan 2 up and 3 -to play. Gillies got on to "the Chasm green- with a beauty, while Gollan drove wide and got close to ihe fence, and he itook 2 to get out, his third was short, and Gillies took the--hole, being within putting distance for 3. Gollan lup and 2to pfay. Gilliea should have won this hole, bub it was halved through his careless putting. Gollan 1 up and 1 -to play. At the eighteenth hole Gilliea 'ftiv within a few feet with his second. His thir3 was within a foot of the hole, and he missed it and enabled Golla-n; to halve in 5. Gollan lup on the first round.
