FIRES.

ACTION OF THE INSURANCE COMPANIES. TPer Press Association.] INVERCABGILL, Sept. 4. Several fires have lately occurred in one of the main business blocks oocupied by wooden, structures. One destroyed the American Carriage Factory, and another caused considerable damage to Jopp's stables. Last night, another fire was discovered in an incipient stage in the premises of R. Taylor, a saddler. The two back doors were saturated with kerosene, and se t alight wi^h paper. As a result, some insurance companies to-day cancelled several policies, and probably others will follow suit. The step has caused consternation among the tenants, some of whom carry large stocks. The property belongs to Sir Joseph Ward and Thomson's Trustees.
